God’s Delight in Humanity

Hello, Bride of Christ,

“The last shall be first”—words spoken by Jesus to His disciples when explaining how the Kingdom of God operates. Yet this concept was established at creation. Humanity was created last, but positioned by God as first. Dominion over all creation was given to mankind through the very first blessing God spoke over humanity.

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’”
—Genesis 1:28 (NKJV)

Last month, we discussed how God created humanity in His image—bestowing identity before assignment—because of His unmerited love for us. This month, we acknowledge God’s gift to humanity, His creation, given because of His delight in us. Humanity is invited into partnership with God, not based on ability, but on His delight. God entrusted the good He created to humanity as provision, and He saw that it was very good—true delight.

The first mention of God’s blessing was spoken over the abundant life in the waters (Genesis 1:22, NKJV): “Be fruitful and multiply; fill…” The second account of God pronouncing a blessing appears in Genesis 1:28, spoken over humanity. This blessing expands: “Be fruitful and multiply; fill and subdue…” God’s love created humanity with both blessing and purpose. We are blessed, and from that posture, we are called to rule and reign over all of God’s creation. The blessing—abundant life—equipped humanity to subdue.

Reflection: How has God’s delight equipped us to steward what He has entrusted to us?

Bride of Christ, God created humanity in His likeness in order to bless them. His love determined that humanity would be blessed to bless. Let us take time this month, like Adam, to observe all the good God has entrusted to us and to live out our partnership with Him (Genesis 2:20, NKJV). For He created us out of love, not lack. In His delight, He set us on assignment—to partner with Him in stewarding His good purpose.
