For His Mercy Endures Forever

Hello, Bride of Christ,

As I consider the account in Genesis we’ve been meditating on this year together, I am struck by several recurring themes:  God’s perfect creation, man’s depravity, God’s relentless pursuit of man, and man’s ongoing curiosity. Yet through every generation, one thing remains constant—God's mercy.

Whether we acknowledge it or are conscious of it, His mercy (chesed) is continually at work on our behalf.

“Who remembered us in our lowly state, For His mercy endures forever.” Psalm 136:23

In Psalm 136, the Psalmist repeats the refrain “For His mercy endures forever,” twenty-six times emphasizing God’s mercy is limitless in both supply and availability. In verse 23, the Psalmist reminds us God’s mercy meets us when we are at our lowest, while the world often notices us on mountain top victories and Instagram worthy moments. Why?

“And rescue us from our enemies, For His mercy endures forever.” Psalm 136:24

God desires to rescue, redeem, and break the bonds of our adversary. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us our adversary is the devil. God’s mercy meets us in our pit not to leave us there, but to redeem us from our greatest soul enemy, Satan.

Bride of Christ, are you wrestling with despair? Feeling lowly? Stuck? Struggling to break free from strongholds?

God’s mercy is available and sufficient for you.

Look up! With a strong hand and outstretched arm, God sent Jesus to rescue you. You are not forgotten. Your lowly state does not repel God; rather He draws near to you with compassion and grace.

Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed? Perhaps you are not where you hope to be? Or maybe by God’s grace you are thriving! Regardless of your current season, God bears you in mind, and His favor is sustaining you.

This month, let us join the psalmist in giving thanks to the Lord. Each day, take a moment to document or declare three things for which you are grateful. As we intentionally remember His faithfulness, may our hearts be filled with renewed confidence that His mercy truly endures forever.
